How to use coloring pages with 4th–6th grade students

Older elementary students usually prefer pages that do not look babyish. Offer detailed scenes, gel pens or colored pencils, and room for personal additions. Students can redesign a setting, create a complementary color scheme, or use the image as the cover for a short story or report.

Print one test page first and use your printer's “fit to page” setting if the edges are clipped. Crayons are forgiving for younger students; colored pencils give older students more control. Markers may bleed through standard copier paper, so place scrap paper underneath or use heavier paper.

PrintableDrops pages are free for personal and educational use. Review the usage terms before republishing or redistributing files online.

Turn their ideas into a personalized story

After your child colors a character or scene, imagine that same child starring in a story created around their name and interests.
